Judicial

The judicial branch includes The Supreme Grand Council and subordinate Grand Councils. The Supreme Grand Council is composed of seven Mufti’s all of whom are Moorish nationals who qualify for the rank of Grand Sheik and are appointed by the Executive Ruler and confirmed by the Grand Body to serve a 7-year term. The Mufti having most knowledge in both religious and secular law, and tenure will serve as Grand Mufti. The Supreme Grand Council has original and appellate jurisdiction and has the power to issue, hear, and determine writs as may be provided by law. The appellate jurisdiction shall extend to all cases of law and in equity arising under the laws of the Constitution of the Moorish Science Temple of America and all within its territorial jurisdiction. The subordinate Grand Councils serve nationals by providing a forum for general jurisdiction over disputes arising under the laws and constitution of the Moorish Science Temple of America within the Asiatic Nation. Grand Council Qadi’s are selected in the same manner as the Mufti’s and serve three-year terms.
